Then, TM Mizuno took a control to TM Imazawa who was the master of the meeting today.
In the beginning of the meeting, TM Imazawa gave her pledge not to use filler words like ah in the meeting.

Every meeting has a “Word of the day”. Members try to use the word as much as possible. TM Akinari provided the word, “veteran”. It can be used as an adjective. It means skillful or experienced. Kichijoji TMC has various veteran members.

We always have one minute Engilish speech session in the beginning of the regular meeting.
TM Imazawa announced the topic in advance.
“Tell us about your most enjoyable memory on a sunny day in Autumn.”
Ride around the lake, outdoor potato stew, walking along the canal, cheering for colleagues in a regatta race, hiking with families and so forth.
Most of members shared their memories one after another. One of the members had a negative memory to make an effort for an athletic meet and made it a humorous speech.

Next we moved on to the Table Topics session.
TM Ohmi, the table topics master led the session. He showed some pictures of the TMC world speech contest champions. With introducing each speech title, TM Ohmi gave questions related the titles to the respondents.

“What was your turning point in your life?”
“What do you want to start from now on?”
“Please tell us your rival in Kichijoji club.”
All speakers worked their brains at full blast and made unique speeches impromptu.

After that, we had 3 English prepared speeches today.

The first speaker was TM A. His speech title was “This is Ice breaking”.
All members expected that he will make a speech to introduce himself. But, it was better than our expectation.
He showed one of research results that the worst attractive prefecture is Ibaraki as known as “Natto prefecture”.
He really loves Ibaraki because it is his hometown.
He appealed Ibaraki to point out 3 evolutional uniqueness. He predicted that “Imo girls” will become a fad in the next.
Also, he recommended young guys to visit horror landmarks in Ibaraki, because it will lead them to get married according to his formura.
Then, he emphasized the importance of “Yankee culture”. Yankee means naughty boys in a rural erea. Do you believe that 60% of citizens are a yankee or an ex-yankee?
I have never seen more hilarious and persuasive ice breaker speech than it.

The second speaker was TM “Happy” Maruyama. The club already has TM Maruyama, so he introduce himself “Happy” Maruyama.
He also made an ice breaker speech whose title was “I live to 130 years old”.
He started to introduce his current job in the opening. Then, he moved on to his life story. Those experiences made him notice that contribution to the others is exactly value of life.
Now, he is getting happy and enjoys his life. In the end of his speech, he asked the audiences “Why don’t you enjoy to live till 130 years old?”
The speech made the mood in the room happier than earlier.

The third speaker was TM “Original(LOL)” Maruyama.
He made an educational speech based on the manual for the advanced speakers. The speech title was “Evaluate to Motivate”.
He started his speech to ask a question, “Are you fond of evaluating others’ speech?” Against his expectation, some of members answered they like to make an evaluation speech.
He used to be a journalist and explained 5W1H thinking way known as a worldwide formula for journalists.
He said that an evaluator doesn’t need to listen to all part of a speech. He gave us a proposal to lead the speaker to the evaluator’s field. It must be useful technique to avoid confusion.
In the end of his speech, he pointed out “cliches”, typical and meaningless words such as “Congrats on your completion …” or “I’m looking forward to …”.
It might have set a bar higher for the evaluators who were about to make an evaluation speech.

After 10 minute break, we had an evaluation session.
Toastmasters clubs have no tutors. Instead of that, all of members can be an evaluator and give helpful and motivating feedback to speakers.
TM Sawatari, TM Shiraishi and TM F made an evaluation speech.   All of them evaluated structure of the speech, delivery skills and effect on the audience in an analytical way.
Thanks to TM Maruyama’s suggestion, all evaluators looked sharp and shrewd.

例会の最後には、ハッピィ丸山さんの入会式を行い、吉祥寺トーストマスターズクラブ恒例の全員での握手会を行いました。

本日の各セッションでのベストスピーカーは以下の通りです。

Best One Minute Speaker: TM Mizuno
